4 Million Bumbo Baby Seats Recalled (US)

Around 4 million Bumbo baby seats are being recalled in the U.S., following around 50 reported incidents where babies have fallen from the seat when it was used on a raised surface. Additional fall incidents have been reported from various heights.

Bumbo seats have been sold since 2003 for between $30 and $50 both online and in various stores, including Sears, Target, Toys R Us (including Babies R Us), USA Babies, Walmart.

If you have a Bumbo, then you need to order a free repair kit – and you are advised to stop using the seat until it arrives. The kit includes a restraint belt with a warning label, installation instructions, safe use instructions and a new warning sticker. The instructions state that a child in the seat must be belted for security and that – even with a belt in use – the Bumbo should never be placed on a raised surface.

If you have a Bumbo seat cover that prevents you from installing and using the belt, you are advised to stop using the cover.

You can find a video explaining exactly how the seat should be used and showing you how to install the belt at www.BumboUSA.com

You can order your free repair kit by visiting the Bumbo website or calling (866) 898-4999 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Thursday and between 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday.

According to the CPSC recall notice, you should not take the Bumbo back to the store you bought it from because the retailer will not be able to provide the necessary repair kit.
