A Cool and Creamy Pineapple Dessert For Baby

Today we thought we’d share a very simple but healthy baby food recipe sent to us by a reader, Mum Elise from St Ives in Cornwall, England.

Elise told us

I’ve been experimenting with recipes for my son this summer that I don’t have to cook and that he’ll enjoy during the warm weather. I thought that visitors to your site might enjoy making this pineapple dessert.

It’s not actually a puree because there are some soft lumps with the pineapple and the cottage cheese, but it’s still easy to eat.

You can serve this as soon as it is mixed, but I tried freezing a batch. Then I crushed it up and fed it to my son from a spoon – he loved it!

Thanks Elise – this sounds like a calcium-packed treat just perfect for the summer!

The frozen pieces could even be put into a Fresh Food Feeder for baby to feed himself  (especially soothing if he’s teething), or frozen into popsicle moulds for older babies.

If you haven’t yet introduced your baby to pineapple…

…then take a look at our Pineapple Baby Food page. You’ll discover lots of ways to prepare it for your little one… and why we suggest using pineapple canned in its own juice rather than fresh pineapple for much of baby’s first year.

Here’s the recipe

2 tbsp crushed pineapple (tinned/canned, in its own juice)
1 tbsp natural, plain yogurt
1 tbsp cottage cheese
1 tsp wheat germ (optional)

Just drain the pineapple to remove as much juice as you can (I squash it in a sieve with the back of a spoon).

Stir in the natural yogurt and cottage cheese.

Sprinkle the wheat germ on top (if using).
