A Simple Japanese Baby Food Idea

One of the great things about the internet is how we are able to make contact with parents worldwide and share ideas. We love hearing about the different types of foods that babies eat in other countries and cultures and always enjoy trying out new foods and recipes with our children!

One of our favourite entries in last month’s ‘Baby Food Recipes Competition‘ was the recipe for Nashi Pear and Sweet Potato Okayu, sent in to us by Amelia Ozaki from Japan (the recipe is currently displayed on our Baby Dessert Recipes page).

Well, Amelia contacted us again this week and told us…

I was just looking at your eggplant recipes, and thought I’d let you know about another really good one I found in a Japanese baby cookbook the other day.

It’s for Tofu and Steamed Eggplant Yoghurt Salad…

You just peel and then cut the eggplant up into little pieces and put them in a bowl of water for a few minutes (to get rid of the bitterness). Then drain the water, wrap in plastic and cook in the microwave for 1 minute.

Wrap some silken tofu in paper towel, put it on a plate and then into the microwave, also for 1 minute (to get rid of the excess water). Cut the tofu into little squares and then mix together with the eggplant and some plain yoghurt.

My 8 month old absolutely loved it!!

This is a really simple idea, using ingredients you may already be familiar with – but put together, perhaps, in a combination you hadn’t considered!

Thanks SO much for sharing, Amelia – and please do keep your baby food ideas coming!
