Baby’s Baked Pears with Yogurt

Today’s melt-in-the-mouth recipe combines sweet, juicy and nutritious pear with a dollop of calcium packed yogurt – and this recipe will make enough for both you AND your little one to share!

Choose a nice, ripe pear for this dish – we recommend Conference, Comice, Anjou or Bosc, any of which are wonderful for use in homemade baby food recipes.

To Make Baby’s Baked Pear with Yogurt You Will Need…

1 pear
2 tsp unsalted butter, melted
pinch ground cinnamon
pinch ground nutmeg
4 oz natural yogurt (here’s our recipe for easy homemade yogurt)
drop of vanilla essence (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350 deg F (180 deg C).

Cut the pear in half lengthways – you don’t need to remove the core at this stage as we find the pear holds its shape better if it’s baked with its core intact.

Take a small baking dish and put the pear halves inside, cut side down.

Stir the cinnamon and nutmeg into the melted butter and brush over the pear.

Bake for about 30 mins, until the pear is tender. The skin should have changed to a golden colour.

Carefully turn the pear halves cut side up and remove the core with a sharp knife.

Allow to cool until the pear is just warm, then put one pear half in your baby’s bowl, cut side up.

Stir the vanilla essence (if using) into the yogurt and spoon half the yogurt into the hollow of baby’s pear half.

Dessert is ready!

For younger babies, you can scoop out the cooked pear flesh and mash, then top with the yogurt if you prefer!
