Carrots, Pear and Puree – Three Words For Our ‘Baby Food’ Top Chef Recipe

If you’re in the US and you watched ‘Top Chef’ last night, then the title of today’s post may mean something to you! If not, then let us explain!

Top Chef  happens to be one of our favourite TV cooking contests, where chefs are given all sorts of challenges to test their skills! In last night’s elimination round, the chefs were given three words, then had to prepare a recipe based on those ‘keywords’. So we thought it would be fun to think up our own three keywords today – and base today’s recipe on what we came up with!

So… today we have a simple Carrot and Pear Puree recipe for you (OK, we gave ourselves easy words!) – but this is a really tasty idea that creates a deliciously sweet and creamy puree your little one will love!

To Make this Creamy Carrot and Pear Puree You Will Need…

2 medium carrots (leave unpeeled if organic)
1/2 small white potato, peeled
1 tsp unsalted butter
approx 2 fl oz (1/4 cup) milk – you can use breast milk or formula if you prefer
1 thyme sprig
1 bay leaf
1/2 small, very ripe pear, peeled and cored

Dice the carrots and white potato and steam or boil in a little water until very tender.
Meanwhile, gently warm the milk with the butter and add the herbs. Set aside for 15 mins, to allow the flavours of the herbs to infuse into the milk.
Cut the pear into tiny dice.
Either puree the carrot and potato together in a food processor or pass through a food mill.
Remove the thyme and bay leaf from the milk, then slowly stir the milk into the carrot/potato mixture until you reach the desired consistency.
Stir in the tiny pear dice and serve!

Note: This recipe is ideal for baies from 6 months+. If you don’t think your little one will enjoy the texture of the diced pear, then simply add the pear to the carrot/potato mixture before pureeing!

And there we have it – a deliciously simple puree that will firmly establish you as the ‘Baby Food Top Chef’ in YOUR household!
