Cream Cheese Bites – A Summertime Finger Food For Baby

With most of us enjoying warmer summer temperatures at the moment, we thought it would be a good idea to share with you a very simple finger food idea that we’ve been using for our youngest son for the last few weeks.

It requires NO COOKING WHATSOEVER (yay!) which means that it helps us all keep our cool!

To Make Cream Cheese Bites You Will Need…

4 oz (1/2 cup) cream cheese
2 heaped tbsp grated apple
2 heaped tbsp grated carrot
1 heaped tbsp finely grated Cheddar cheese (optional)

Preparation is quick and easy – simply combine the cream cheese with the grated apple and carrot, then roll into balls in between your hands and chill until ready to serve.

Tips:

Our little man is 18 months now, so he can handle just about anything in terms of texture! But for younger babies, we’d recommend grating the apple and carrot very finely to make the little pieces easier to manage. Choose a nice, sweet dessert apple (we use Golden Delicious) – the flavour contrasts wonderfully with the cheese.

The Cheddar cheese is optional, but our son is a complete cheese freak and loves the stronger taste it provides.

You can also ‘custom-make’ this recipe for your tiny diner with the addition of his favourite fresh, finely chopped herbs… you may also like to roll the balls in wheat germ to make them easier to pick up and even MORE nutritious (read more about adding wheat germ to your baby’s food here).

If you have any quick and easy ideas for cool summer baby food treats, then please do share them here!
