Flying Alone with Baby?

If you’re planning to fly alone with your baby (which sounds like a contradiction in terms, although you know what we mean!), then something worth checking out is whether or not you can obtain an Escort Pass.

An Escort Pass allows your husband/partner or other helpful soul to accompany you and your baby all the way to the gate at the airport. This can be really useful if you have anything bulky to carry – or if you’d just like someone to help keep baby amused before you board the aircraft!

Unfortunately, Escort Passes are not available from all airlines. Stricter security controls at airports since September 11th have led to many airlines refusing to issue them, unless they are for parents to collect unaccompanied children from flights, or for those helping passengers with disabilities.

Another option is to find out if there will be any staff members at the airport who would be able to assist you. Normally this service is only provided for elderly or disabled passengers – but some airports do allow for the fact that a parent travelling solo may require a little assistance, too!

To find out the options available to you, call your airline prior to the day of departure.
