Nutritious Tuna Pasta with Avocado Mayonnaise

Today’s recipe idea will make a tasty lunch or dinner for an older baby who is happy with a little texture to his food!
Pasta is a great finger food for babies – easy to pick up, it also nice and soft for your little one to chew. This recipe calls for whole grain pasta – whilst you could use white pasta instead, it’s less nutritious than the whole grain variety and far less flavoursome!
The addition of tuna to the pasta adds a welcome dose of Omega 3 fatty acids – so important to the development of baby’s brain - and the avocado provides your little one with many more nutrients, including potassium, B vitamins and iron.
And not only is this dish brimming with healthy goodness, it’s brimming with flavour, too – try some and see! We like to spice this dish up for the adults by adding a little chopped raw onion and a good pinch of cayenne pepper!
To make baby’s Tuna Pasta with Avocado Mayonnaise you will need…
2 oz (1/4 cup) cooked whole grain pasta shapes, cooled (we use spirals as they hold the mayonnaise quite well)
1 tbsp canned light tuna
1/2 avocado (skin and pit removed)
2 tsp lemon juice (optional – some babies may react to lemon juice – but do include this when preparing the dish for an adult)
2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
Prepare the mayonnaise by placing the avocado, lemon juice (if using) and olive oil in a blender and processing until smooth.
Mix the pasta shapes in a bowl with the avocado mayonnaise, then add the tuna and mix well.
And that’s it – lunch is ready in no time at all!
