Recall of Baby Appleseed Cribs (US)
Aug 6th, 2008 by Christine
Baby Appleseed is recalling its Davenport Cribs because they do not meet safety standards.
These cribs have a two mattress support system – the problem is that the secondary support (used to set the mattress at the lowest position) is not high enough – meaning that a baby could crawl over the railing. Fortunately, no children have been injured.
The cribs involved in this recall have model numbers beginning with the digits ’273′ and manufacture dates on or before August 2007. You can find the manufacture date printed on a label on the right side of the lower inner panel of the crib.
The cribs feature one metal and one wooden mattress support system. If your crib is a newer model, with a model number starting with ’244′ and only one mattress support, then it is NOT included in this recall.
These cribs were sold from December 2006 through September 2007 at specialty juvenile product stores nationwide for between $600 and $800.
If you have one, please stop using it in the third lowest position (which necessitates using the wooden mattress support) and contact Baby Appleseed at (877) 348-2199 to receive a repair kit. If you are using the crib with the mattress support in either the top or middle positions, then you can carry on using it as usual whilst you wait for the repair kit. Apparently, the repair kits will be available from Baby Appleseed in mid-August.
