Recall of Children’s Hooded Jackets (US)
Nov 20th, 2008 by Christine
Some Children’s Hooded Jackets are being recalled because they have drawstrings through the hood and at the waist. These pose a strangulation hazard because they may catch on playground equipment, tree branches etc. Although no injuries have been reported in this instance, the CPSC received reports of 27 deaths and 70 non-fatal incidents involving the entanglement of children’s clothing drawstrings from 1985 through June 2008.
The jackets – shown here – were sold in sizes 12 months through size 10 and were available in various solid colours and prints. “Young Colors” is sewn into the jacket tag, which you can find at the neck.
The jackets were sold for around $45 at specialty children’s stores nationwide from April 2004 through September 2007.
The CPSC is advising consumers to remove the drawstrings from the jacket, thereby remove the hazard – but, if you need more information, you can contact R&D International Inc. collect at (719) 539-3812 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or visit their website.
