Toxic Teddy Bears Recalled by Harrods (UK)
Aug 18th, 2008 by Christine
About 800 souvenir teddy bears for Christmas 2008 are being recalled by Harrods department store because the embroidered foot pads on the bears contain high levels of the toxic chemical formaldehyde.
Harrods has said that prolonged contact with the chemical could cause skin irritation in children and that replacement bears will be issued to anyone who has bought the affected toys.
The recalled bears are the 8-in Michael bear and the 13-in Elliott bear, which cost between £15 and £25 – no other bear ranges are affected.
