Fact: homemade baby food is cost-effective, often saving you a significant amount of money compared to the cost of buying commercially prepared baby food jars.
And there are certain ingredients that keep the cost of making your own baby food even lower, WITHOUT compromising on nutrition!
One of those ingredients, which we posted about recently, is the humble white potato.
Another GREAT and relatively inexpensive food for your baby is the egg!
Rules have changed quite a bit regarding the introduction of eggs.
It used to be that you had to avoid offering the whole egg until your baby was at least 12 months of age, because egg whites are sometimes responsible for allergic reactions.
It has always been acceptable, however, to introduce egg yolk from 6 months of age (although you should always check with your doctor first).
But more recently the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has changed its stance regarding allergenic foods such as egg whites, finding no benefits in delaying their introduction.
The AAP now suggests that egg whites, along with other foods previously deemed ‘high risk’, may be introduced from 6 months of age, unless specified otherwise by a doctor.
