This simple dish has a lovely, naturally sweet flavour that your baby can enjoy at any time of day, or even as a dessert!
Ideal from around 6 months of age, it is highly nutritious and tastes best when served right after preparation.
Why is this Strawberry, Banana, and Beet Mash so Good for Your Baby?
Great for boosting your little one’s immune system, this dish is made with three very healthy ingredients – strawberry, banana, and beets (also known as beetroot).
Strawberries
Rich in phenols – compounds that promote heart health and protect the body from serious diseases like cancer – strawberries are packed with vitamins and minerals too.
These include vitamins A, B, C, and K, plus folate, fiber, and even omega 3 fatty acids!

Bananas
Bananas are another great source of nutrients, rich in vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc.
They also contain pectin, a soluble fiber that helps prevent constipation.
Plus, of course, they’re deliciously sweet, so they pair perfectly with other fruits that may be a little more sour.

Beets/beetroot
With a sweet, earthy flavour, brightly coloured beets are one of the healthiest foods out there.
They are packed with vitamin C and great for digestion, potentially helping improve the symptoms of infant reflux.

This Dish Introduces a Little Texture
You can puree this dish to a completely smooth texture if you like, but in our recipe we’ve mashed the banana instead of pureeing it.
Those soft little lumps of banana make a nice introduction to textured foods if your baby is moving on from smooth purees.

Planning ahead
This recipe uses a cooked beet, so you’ll need to have this on hand before you start.
Obviously, we wouldn’t recommend cooking one beet just for this recipe. Instead, we like to pop a few in the oven when cooking the family meal, then put them in the freezer ready to use in our recipes as and when we need them.
Storage
This recipe makes 1 portion, which we recommend serving as soon as it’s prepared.
If you want to save time by preparing some in advance, we recommend freezing the pureed strawberry and beet mixture, then adding the mashed banana when you are ready to serve the dish to your baby.
