Did you know that today is National Bagel Day? Well, neither did we to be honest, until we came across an article about Brueggers’ Bagels and their survey of 75,000 bagel fans! Bruegger’s discovered that ‘Everything’ Bagels topped the list of favourite bagel flavours, followed by Cinnamon-Raisin and Sesame. Cream cheese was the most popular bagel topping.
We’re big fans of bagels ourselves and think they make a wonderful finger food for older babies who are biting and chewing. They have a great texture and can be topped with all sorts of yummy spreads – our little man loves cream cheese with some fruit puree stirred in. We’ve also used mashed avocado, this tasty ricotta and bean spread and simple spreads made by combining cream cheese with pureed leftover veggies.
If you feel like joining in the spirit of National Bagel Day today, then how about having a go at making your OWN bagels? We have a recipe for whole wheat bagels, made with honey and ideal for babies of at least 12 months of age. They may take a little while to prepare, but they’re super yummy – and we even tell you how to adapt them from plain bagels to the cinnamon/raisin variety.
Learn how to make your own bagels here in our Infant Finger Food Recipes section – it’s the last recipe on the page.
