Many commercial disinfecting sprays contain harsh chemicals that may not just be hazardous to the environment, but may be harmful to your baby, too.
Considering that babies seem to prefer eating directly from the highchair tray than from a bowl, it makes sense to use a cleaner that contains only natural ingredients.
This recipe for a natural highchair cleaning solution includes lavender oil and tea tree oil. Both of these have wonderful antibacterial and antiseptic properties – and the lavender oil smells great, too!
Another bonus is that your homemade highchair cleaner costs far less than commercial cleaners – and you can safely use it in all areas of the kitchen.
Here’s what you’ll need
32 fl oz (4 cups) water
1/2 tsp lavender oil
1/2 tsp tea tree oil
4 fl oz (1/2 cup) distilled white vinegar
Simply pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle and give it a good shake to mix them thoroughly.
Your homemade highchair cleaner is now ready for use!
One more thing – distilled white vinegar is a great stain remover, too. Try soaking baby’s dirty bibs using a 50/50 blend of white vinegar and water, then putting them through the usual laundry cycle. No more stubborn stains!
Please do share your own recipes for homemade cleaners and other natural alternatives to commercial household products!

Would it be okay to substitute lavender with lemon essential oil? Thanks!

You could certainly use lemongrass oil, which also has powerful antibacterial properties.

Natural food or health stores may carry essential oils, or soap & candle making suppliers, or shop on-line. Make sure to get essential oil and not fragrance oil! :)

Great idea, but where can I buy lavender oil?
