You say hummus, I say houmous – however you say or spell it, this delicious Middle Eastern treat is remarkably nutritious, rich in protein, iron and vitamins!
Our little ones have always loved hummus and they still do! It has a great texture for babies – smooth and creamy – and it’s also VERY versatile.
Why homemade hummus?
In many areas, commercially prepared hummus is widely available – but, not only does it not taste as good as hummus prepared at home, it may contain ingredients unsuitable for your little one.
The traditional recipe is somewhat rich in garlic and lemon juice, but by preparing your own you can easily make modifications that omit or reduce the amount of those ingredients. You can even add some rather UN-traditional ingredients for new, exciting flavors and even MORE nutritional value!
And, of course, homemade hummus is far cheaper… particularly if (like us) you live in an area where it’s considered to be a ‘gourmet’ food – a tub of hummus here can cost around $12!
We’ve added a new page to our site devoted entirely to this tasty food! It explains how and when to offer hummus to your baby and gives simple instructions for making your own.
If your baby – or even the rest of your family – has not yet tried hummus, please do visit our new page and give it a try… you’re in for a treat, we promise!
