So… you’ve made a lovely batch of pureed vegetables for your baby and your freezer is bulging with your homemade baby food creations – but then you discover that your little one has decided he is done with purees and wants something more substantial to get his teeth (or gums) into!
What can you do with all those leftover cubes of baby food?
One of our readers – Sarah – contacted us this week to share just how she gets around this little problem…
What do you do with all those cubes what your baby refuses to eat anything but table food?
I added the fruit cubes to some fresh/frozen fruit in cobblers (use a multi grain cereal like Kashi crunched up and oats/whole wheat flour, then top with kefir on the plate for a power packed breakfast!)
Lentils and veggies are great additions to soups, stews, chile, in burrito fillings, and for rice dishes.
Those are great suggestions, Sarah, thank you for sharing them.
Another idea you might like to try is to use the leftover puree cubes as “dips” for your little one!
Older babies enjoying finger foods will have great fun dipping things like breadsticks, pita bread or pieces of lightly toasted bagel into a puree!
You’ll find that one cube of puree is the perfect amount to accompany a plate of finger foods!
Alternatively, why not try using the purees as a tasty and nutritious sauce for pasta?
For younger babies, stir chopped, whole grain pasta into the puree – for older babies, leave the pasta shapes whole and coat them in the puree, so your little one can pick them up and feed himself.
Not only is this a great way of using up those leftover purees, it makes a healthy way to serve pasta to your baby at any time – picky eaters may not even notice they’re eating vegetables at all!
Have you come up with a great way to use up all YOUR leftover cubes of pureed food? Then please let us know!

I've been mixing purees into cream cheese as well as using the carrot/sweet potato & pumpkin cubes into homemade mac n'cheese - they don't even know they're there!

I've been spreading my fruit purees on whole wheat toast. That goes over pretty well. I've also thought about (selfishly!) making smoothies for me to drink.
