If your baby is bored with plain old mashed potato, then here’s a recipe he won’t ‘turnip’ his nose at (sorry!).
This tasty concoction, ideal for babies from 6 months onwards, can be served alone as a complete meal for younger babies, or as a side dish for older children (and for you, too!).
Turnips contain lots of vitamin C, carrots are an excellent source of beta-carotene and the natural yogurt adds a nice dollop of calcium – making this a nourishing dish that’s wonderfully simple to prepare.
For Baby’s Mashed Turnips Recipe You Will Need…
1 small turnip, peeled and diced
1 small potato, peeled and diced
1 medium carrot, peeled and diced
2 tbsp unsalted butter (optional)
2 tbsp natural yogurt
pinch freshly ground black pepper
drop pure Maple syrup (optional)*
1 tbsp fresh chives, chopped
*The Maple syrup adds a little sweetness which can counteract any bitterness from the turnip
Put the diced veggies into a saucepan, just cover with water and bring to the boil.
Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook until the veggies are tender (5-10 mins).
Drain thoroughly, then mash in a bowl with the butter, yogurt, pepper and chives.
Add a little maple syrup (if desired) for a touch of sweetness.
