Recall of Neocate® Infant Specialized Formula (US)

Neocate® Infant Specialized Formula (Lot P91877) is being recalled. Around 3700 cans are included in this recall and no other Neocate® products or lot numbers are affected.

This formula, which is packaged in 14 oz. cans, is not meant for general use and is usually given to babies in the care of medical professionals. The affected cans were distributed between September 1, 2009 and September 11, 2009.

According to the recall notice from the FDA, a few of the cans contain less protein than stated on the label. Apparently, this does not pose any immediate risk of adverse consequences to health and the protein content in the affected cans still meets the minimum guidelines for protein established by the World Health Organization.

The recall notice states that consumption of this formula should not cause any problems in the short term, but that long term consumption may adversely affect weight gain.

If you suspect you have any of this formula, look for the lot number of P91877 on the bottom of the can and on the right hand side of the case label.
