Recall of Organic Brown Eggs (US)

You can’t help feeling that organic food is totally safe and by buying it you avoid the possibility of contamination – however, today’s recall shows that even organic goods may not be totally free from risk!

Organic brown eggs are being recalled by den Dulk Poultry Farms because there is a chance that they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella poses a particular risk to very young children.

The eggs involved in this recall were distributed to Costco and Safeway in Northern California, as far South as Fresno, and also in western Nevada.

In Costco, they are sold as Kirkland Organic Brown Eggs. They are packed in cartons of 18 eggs – and, if you look on the end of the carton – you will find the expiration dates and plant codes which are written like this –

The eggs are sold at 71 Safeway and Pack n’ Save stores as O Organic Grade A Large Brown Eggs and are packed in cartons of 12. Again, the expiration dates and plant codes are on the end of the carton and appear like this –
