Certain Peg Perego strollers are being recalled because they pose a risk of entrapment and strangulation which – according to the CPSC – led to the death of a child several years ago.
If a baby is sitting in the stroller without a harness, then it’s possible for him to slide down and pass through the opening between the tray and the seat – but it’s also possible for his head to become entrapped by the tray, leading to strangulation.
This issue was addressed by a 2008 voluntary industry standard, requiring larger stroller openings to prevent the hazard. However, the strollers currently being recalled were manufactured before this standard existed.
The recalled models are the Venezia and Pliko-P3, which were manufactured between January 2004 and September 2007, in various colors. Only strollers with a child tray with one cup holder are included in this recall. Strollers that have two cup holders, or a bumper bar in front of the child, are not included.
Venezia and Pliko-P3 stroller model numbers beginning with the following numbers are included in this recall. You can find the model number printed on a white label on the back of the Pliko P-3’s stroller seat and on the Venezia stroller’s footboard.
