Recall of Phil & Ted’s Metoo Portable High Chair (Australia)

Phil & Ted’s Metoo Portable High Chairs are being recalled because the company has received complaints that the chair can detach from the table top if the clamps are not fully tightened. These clamps need a rubberized sheath to improve their grip and allow them to be tightened more effectively.

Metoo chairs manufactured since March 2010 already have the rubberized sheaths in place. Older chairs have exposed aluminum clamps. This recall only involves older chairs – if yours already has the rubberized sheaths, then your chair is NOT included in this recall.

The recalled chairs were sold from 1st April 2006 to 28th January 2010 across Australia by specialty juvenile goods retail outlets and online retailers.

If you have one of the chairs involved in this recall, please contact Phil and Ted’s on (877) 432-1641 to obtain a self-fit repair kit containing table clamp sheaths.

If there are any doubts about the potential for harm in this chair please have a look at this photo of my daughter’s finger after an incident with the metoo chair.

We informed Phil & Ted about this incident in October 2009 the day after our visit to the emergency room. It is shameful they have not accepted a recall.

Note that the pads can fall off easily without the user’s knowledge. Even if tightly clamped the chair can still slide off. The clamp is made of smooth metal with a short handle. There is little room for error with this chair. Add any typical child excited about their peas to this chair and it’s a recipe for serious injury.

Shame, shame on Phil & Ted – I expected better from them.
