Recall of Playhome Canopies (US)

The Land of Nod is recalling its Home Sweet Playhome Canopies. The reason is that a child could get their head caught in the canopy’s window openings, which presents both entrapment and strangulation hazards. Although no injuries have been reported, there have been two incidents where children’s heads have become caught in these openings.

recall of canopiesThe canopies involved are the “Home Sweet Playhome” models, which are made of 100% cotton gingham fabric. The fabric hangs from a bamboo hoop which is suspended from the ceiling to create a cylindrical play space measuring 36 inches wide and 9 feet tall. The canopies feature an open bottom, a “door” and three multi-paned “windows.” They were sold in both pink and blue. “The Land of Nod” is printed on a woven label on the canopy.

“Home Sweet Playhome” canopies that were sold after October 2005 are NOT involved in this recall.

The canopies were sold from September 2003 through October 2005 via The Land of Nod catalog, the website www.landofnod.com, and at The Land of Nod stores in Illinois and Washington state. The canopy sold for around $100 and the canopy and cushion set sold for $139.

If you have one of these canopies, please don’t allow your child to use it. Instead, you should contact the Land of Nod at (800) 933-9904 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday. You will be issued with a $15 gift card and a free replacement fabric portion of the canopy. Alternatively, you can visit the company’s website or e-mail them at recall@landofnod.com.
