Recall of Plum Organics Baby Food (US)

Plum Organics is recalling one batch of its Apple & Carrot Portable Pouch baby food (4.22 oz). The pouch concerned has a ‘best by’ date of May 21, 2010 and is marked with the universal product code (UPC) #890180001221, which you can find on the bottom of the package.

These pouches are individually sold at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us
stores across the US.

This recall was undertaken voluntarily because there are concerns that the food may be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism.

As a precaution, samples from every other Plum Organics product made before and after the batch included in this recall were tested, but were found to be safe. So this recall is limited only to the product mentioned above and no other Plum Organics baby food is affected.

If you have one of the recalled pouches of baby food, please return it to your nearest Toys-R-Us or Babies-R-Us store, where you will be given a full refund. You shouldn’t use the food – even if it looks perfectly normal – because of the possible risk to your baby’s health.

Although the risk is perceived to be small, it’s worth being aware of the symptoms of botulism poisoning, which are dizziness, weakness, double vision, and drooling due to difficulty in swallowing. If you are at all concerned about your baby, please do speak to your doctor.
