If your baby was born prematurely (before 37 weeks) then the usual ‘rules’ for introducing solids may not apply. For some premature babies, early weaning is recommended to help them ‘catch up’ on the nutrition they missed in the womb – others are not developmentally ready until 8 – or more – months after their actual birth date.
Knowing when to introduce your preemie to his first foods can be confusing and there are additional considerations to take into account beyond those necessary for their full term peers.
So we’ve created a new page for the parents of premature babies, which highlights the experiences of other parents who’ve been in the same situation. It also includes an opportunity to share YOUR experience with introducing solids to your preemie, plus some links to useful resources.
