We love gadgets that make life in the kitchen that little bit easier. But we’re the first to admit that things that LOOK so great on TV ads often end up being more trouble than they’re worth.
I’m sure we’re not the only ones with a drawer full of ‘must have’ kitchen accessories that have only been used once or twice and will probably never see the light of day again!
But this week we discovered a kitchen tool that we truly LOVE and we’ve actually USED (gasp!) many times already – and that’s the Pampered Chef Pie Gate Saver Keeper (Amazon)
I say we discovered it, but the Pie Gate was actually given to us by a friend on her return from a trip to Florida (we don’t get many new-fangled gadgets here on our little island).
And I say ‘new-fangled’, although it turns out this little tool has been around for years and we just hadn’t come across one yet. I’m guessing that’s due to our British background, where pies aren’t quite the ‘staple food’ they seem to be on this side of the water!
So if – like us – you’re in the minority that hasn’t yet experienced the joys of the Pie Gate, here’s what you’ve been missing!
The Pampered Chef Pie Gate Saver Keeper (Amazon) is designed to stop the filling leaking out of your pie and all over your pie dish when you cut it. You know how you start with a nice, plump, fruit pie, for example – then you cut the first slice and the fruit from the rest of the pie runs into the void, leaving your delicious creation looking a little deflated?
Well, you just pop in the gate and it holds back the filling – then, as you cut more of the pie, you open the adjustable gate wider so everything stays intact. What a brilliantly simple idea!
The manufacturers also point out that the gate keeps the cut edges fresh – but, with seven mouths to feed, the freshness of cut edges is never really an issue in our household!
The Pie Gate fits most 8″ and 9″ pies and has flexible edges to keep back as much of your yummy filling as possible. The Pampered Chef Pie Gate Saver Keeper is available online from Amazon.com.
And if YOU know of any similarly wonderful gadgets that we should review, please do leave or comment or contact us here!

I am a gadget freak as well. While i dont cook many pies, i can see the utility in this. I am trying to think of alternate uses, and as a folding scoopula after chopping veggies is perfect for this.
