Has your little one tried tofu yet? If you’re not vegetarian, then you may have bypassed tofu altogether when looking for ideas for your baby’s menu. But tofu is so much more than just a substitute for meat. An excellent source of protein, calcium and iron, tofu is a great way of giving your little one’s nutrition a boost – what’s more, it has virtually no taste… meaning you can easily sneak it into his food without him even noticing!

Today’s recipe is for a very simple spread, which could also be used as a dip or even served straight up as a puree! We recommend waiting until your baby is at least 8 months of age before introducing tofu – and please do read our infant soy allergy information first, because soy may cause adverse reactions in some children.
Here’s what you’ll need to make Tofu and Avocado Spread
1/4 block of silken tofu
4 oz (1/2 cup) cottage cheese
1/2 avocado
1 tbsp fresh coriander (cilantro), finely chopped
Drain the tofu thoroughly and blot with kitchen paper.
Scoop the avocado flesh from the skin and place in a bowl with the tofu.
Add the cottage cheese and the coriander (cilantro) and mash everything together. You could do this in a blender if you want to ensure that it comes out completely smooth.
Chill and serve – our little ones love this served on pieces of lightly toasted bagel. It’s yummy!
