Toys R Us and Wal-Mart are the latest stores to respond to parents’ concerns over bisphenol A (BPA) in baby bottles.
Although the Food and Drug Administration has NOT recalled baby bottles and other baby care accessories containing BPA, Canada’s announcement at the end of last week that it’s moving towards a total ban on BPA in baby products has raised awareness of this chemical’s potential hazards.
Toys R Us has said that all baby products containing BPA should be off its shelves by the end of 2008 and all Wal-Mart baby care items should be BPA-free by the beginning of 2009.
Both stores already stock a range of BPA-free baby products – so it’s worth checking labels carefully and avoiding any products containing BPA that are still available for sale.
