We’ve called today’s baby food ideas ‘toast toppers’ – but really they’re just two nutritious food combinations that you can use to top any kind of bread, from regular toast to lightly toasted bagel or warm pita.
They’re perfect finger foods for babies who are happy to feed themselves and can make a great addition to baby’s menu if you’re doing baby led weaning.
Either of these recipes would be ideal for lunch or breakfast.
Banana Toast
1. Remove the crusts from a slice of whole wheat bread and toast both sides under the broiler/grill.
2. Remove from the broiler/grill, spread with mashed, ripe banana and dust with cinnamon.
3. Place back under the grill/broiler for a moment to warm slightly, then serve.
4. You can make this topping even more nutritious by mixing mashed avocado with the banana.
Messy but magnificent!
Scrambled Egg Surprise
1. Remove the crusts from a slice of whole wheat bread and toast both sides under the broiler/grill.
2. Meanwhile, scramble one whole egg in a frying pan (or 2 egg yolks if you’re avoiding egg white).
3. Pile the scrambled egg on to the toast, then top with a handful of grated cheddar cheese.
4. Place under a hot grill/broiler until the cheese has melted over the egg, then cool, cut into triangles and serve.
Note: If you’re serving these toppings with pita (pitta) bread, there’s no need to toast it – just warm it a little before adding the toppings!
What does YOUR baby like on his toast?

My daughter likes peanut butter, or strawberry preserves.
