Recall of phil&teds Strollers (US and Canada)

Explorer and Hammerhead Strollers are being recalled in both the US and Canada because their brakes may fail, posing an obvious hazard to babies.

The strollers were sold for between $475 and $500 from August 2010 through June 2011 at Babies R Us and other juvenile retailers and online at philandteds.com, pishposhbaby.com, and albeebaby.com.

These strollers were sold as single strollers or with a doubles kit (which makes them into double strollers), They both have cloth seats and canopies and whilst the Explorer strollers were sold in various colours, the Hammerhead was only sold in black.

To identify these strollers, you can look for the phil&teds logo on the crotch piece of the harness on both models and a sticker saying either “phil&teds model EX explorer” or “phil&teds model HH hammerhead” on the rear axle bar.

You can also find a sticker on the stroller showing the serial number – it’s on the inside of the left hinge if you’re looking at it from behind. The serial numbers run consecutively and show the month and year followed by the unit number.

The serial numbers included in this recall are:
0610/0001 to 0111/4788 (June 2010, unit #1, to January 2011, unit #4788).

If you have an Explorer stroller, please stop using it until you have swapped out the frame with a new one fitted with an upgraded brake assembly. You can obtain this by contacting phil&teds USA toll free at (855) 652-9019 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, or visiting their website.

If you have a Hammerhead stroller, please contact phil&teds as described above. You will receive a pre-paid return shipping container and will need to return the stroller to phil&teds. The brake assembly will be replaced for you and the stroller sent back.
