Recall of Two Types of Mexican Cheese (US)

Queso Cotija Molido Mexican style grated cheese and two specific lots of Queso Fresco Fresh Cheese Mexican style soft cheese are being recalled. This is because they could be contaminated with the food poisoning bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

The Queso Cotija Molido Cheese, which comes in 15-ounce clear plastic bags, is marked with a UPC number of 8 17424 00027 7 and Plant # 36-1388 – however, it does not contain a lot number or production date.

The Queso Fresco Fresh Cheese, which comes in 14-ounce foil wrapped packages, has a white sticker with lot number 4469 or 4477 and bears the UPC number 8 17424 00024 6 and Plant # 36-8431.

These products were distributed to retail stores in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx and Manhattan, and two towns in Pennsylvania (Scranton and Hazelton) in early February.

If you have either of these products, please throw them away – and if you have any questions, please contact Peregrina Cheese Corporation at (718) 456-2391, Monday – Friday from 9 am – 4:30 pm EST.
