Health Canada is advising pregnant and breastfeeding women not to take Vitamin Maxum Matragen and/or Maxum Multi Vite supplements by Seroyal International Inc.
Whilst Maxum Multi-Vite has been approved as a vitamin-mineral supplement for the general public, it doesn’t have the cautionary statement required on the label regarding pregnant and/or breast feeding women. Maxum Matragen is being promoted as a prenatal supplement – but Health Canada has authorised neither of these products for use by pregnant or breastfeeding women.
These products both contain ingredients like Green Tea Extracts, Vanadium and Ginkgo biloba – however, their safety for use during nursing or pregnancy has not been fully established. Products that contain these ingredients should be labelled with a warning to seek advice from a health care practitioner before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
Also, the daily doses that appear on the labelling don’t provide the minimum recommended daily dose of folic acid or iron that pregnant and breastfeeding women need.
If you are already using either of these products, Health Canada recommends that you speak to a health care professional before continuing to take them.
These products have now been recalled by Seroyal International Inc.
