Why Eggs are So Good for Babies

There are SO many good reasons to include eggs in your baby’s diet. If you haven’t introduced them to your baby yet… it’s time to get cracking!

Eggs are PACKED with nutrients!

An article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in November 2017 discussed research that had taken place in Ecuador, looking at how eating eggs helped with infant development.

163 babies aged between six and nine months were divided into two groups. One group was given an egg every day for 6 months, the other group wasn’t.

At the end, the babies were given blood tests – and the results showed that the babies who’d been enjoying the daily eggs had higher levels of choline and DHA.

The names of those nutrients may not be instantly recognisable, but they’re important and play a big part in the development of babies’ brains.

Eggs also contain vitamin D (in fact, they are one of the very few foods that do).

You can learn more about vitamin D here.

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, you’ll be pleased to hear that eggs contain iron, zinc and immunity-boosting selenium too!

Eggs provide your baby with COMPLETE protein

Proteins are the body’s building blocks and vital to your baby’s development.

They are made up of amino acids and whilst your baby’s body can produce SOME of the amino acids it needs from foods, it can’t produce them all.

There are nine amino acids that MUST come from the diet – these are known as essential amino acids.

The good news? The humble egg contains all nine!

Eggs are cheap… and they’re everywhere!

We know from experience that it’s hard to get certain ingredients in certain parts of the world. But eggs are widely available and usually very affordable!

The fact that they are such a great source of protein also makes them a low-cost alternative to protein-rich meat.

That means they’re not just ideal for vegetarians, but also for those looking for meals that are both economical AND nutritious.
